Empowering Women: Why Does It Matter?

A society cannot reach its full potential when half of its population is unable to use their voices and abilities. Women play a vital role in families and societies; however, a considerable number of them face barriers that limit their opportunities, choices, and participation. Empowering women refers to providing women with opportunities, confidence, resources, and freedom to participate in decisions that affect their lives.

The Words That Become Wings

“Who said kafan is only white?” Mahnoor whispered. “The dress I am wearing are red, but they are kafan for me.” Aima had no reply. The place seemed to be like a dark room. The wedding music was still loud outside. Everyone seemed to be laughing and dancing, yet Mahnoor stood frozen.

What Happened in the Depths of My Kohl-Lined Eyes?

I lined my almond-shaped eyes with black kohl, then brought the large mirror closer to my face. With great care, I began to glide red lipstick over my thin lips. I thought of him, his laughter, his eyes, and all the dreams he had woven around our future. A smile, darker than the lipstick on my lips, slowly spread across my face.

Familiar Stranger

With dark, shadowed eyes and excitement, she sat down in front of her mother. “Mom… when did you feel strong? I mean, when did you truly realize you were at your strongest?”

The girl who has never given up on her dreams

I have never thought that a day would arrive when education would be a dream for each of the Afghan girls. When I was accepted to Kabul University, I was feeling that one of my biggest ambitions was already fulfilled. I was going to university with great enthusiasm and interest.

Down the Road of Kabul

You are gonna be okay, it’s just the Taliban
Oh just the Taliban…
How simple words to bring on your mouth
Years of nonstop war
Just the Taliban?
A home with no breadwinner
Children screaming out of hunger
Still not a big deal?

Tell a Story. Change a Life.

Stories are how we’ve always made sense of the world. They’ve carried our truths, shaped our cultures, and connected us across distance and difference. At Humanitas Media, we believe that stories still hold that power—especially when they center the people and experiences too often left out.

If you have a story to tell, we’d love to hear from you.
